The Form Theory project presents a unique and interdisciplinary opportunity to collaborate as a team to develop a concise design philosophy reflective of historic understanding. After gathering information on the history and evolution of the chair, our group developed a chair that would serve as a long-lasting, timeless piece.
The Nomad is a concept that essentially describes the overall ideals of our chair. Focusing on the De Stijl movement as well as Gerritt Rietveld’s design philosophy, we were able to create a chair that focuses on simplicity as well as being a piece that can serve the consumer in every stage of their life.
The construction of this chair was a process in itself. After finalizing our design, we learned a lot about ergonomics in the design and construction of a potential working piece. Our final chair is at a one fourth scale.
